3月27日 Moving On. I have decided to move on to blogger to try out some new things. I am not sure about posting here in future. New Activism Blog: Prolefeed Dissident 12月5日 Marry them Mr. MinisterThere's an interesting news on Hindustan Times today about an unusual protests by female medical students. There is a slight personal angle to how I interprete this news and though different people will have different opinion on protest, sit back and just enjoy the creative gesture. For those who have been complaining about striking doctors, this is an opportunity go beyond the "Doctor's on strike again/life givers or takers" etc headlines and listen to their geniune concern
Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss has been swamped with marriage offers. Young girls from Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata dressed in their finest silks chased the 39-year-old on Tuesday with pleas of “Will you marry me?”
“Since Dr Ramadoss is taking all decisions about our life like how many years we should study, or how much we should get paid, without consulting us, he should take our responsibility as well,” said Kuheli Bhattacharya, a medical intern at KEM Hospital. 10月2日 Stub12月20日 The Dark AgesThe recent power outage in Seattle suburbs has left us all wondering if we really live in a "Developed" part of the world. For the friends of mine who are still power-less(literally AND metaphorically) I have a suggestion. Let's do it Bollywood style. You guys need to go down to PSE(Puget Sound Energy) office and do the number from "Gopi Kishan",
I mean seriously, five days and counting! 8月22日 Cola gets clean chit again. So Government Of India gives clean chit to Cola.

12月14日 Saving Bandhyali School (Digantar, Jaipur)December 12, 2005
"Ek Ladki Padhegi Sau Peedhiyan Tarengi"(One girl educated is hundred generations flourished), announced Rajasthan's Chief Minister. Vasundhara Raje Scindia, during a prize distribution at Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls School, Jaipur.
Meanwhile a few kilometers away a NGO called Digantar* is desperately seeking support to save a school dedicated to educate under privileged children. Majority of them girls.

December 2, 2005
Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) sends an eviction notice to the Bandhyali* School (run by Digantar) to vacate the land in three days. The school enrolls 325 students. 201 of them girls. All the children belong to less privileged section of society and the school is situated in rural area just out side Jaipur. Most of the children who are in these schools would have been outside the fold of education but for this school. Almost all children come either from minority (about 70% Muslim Children) or from schedule cast social background. Education in Digantar schools is completely free for children. No fee is charged and all needed teaching-learning material, books and the school provides stationary.
*(Some spell it Badhayali)
Step back a few years.

Frustrated, Digantar moved the court on the basis that
JDA’s insistence on removal of the school would be:
1. a violent disruption of children’s right to education, 2. blatant discrimination against Digantar, and 3. destruction of a very good quality school for the marginalized to favour privatisation of education. Further more, let readers be reminded that(Thanks Brajesh Pandey):
Insertion of Article 21A through 86th Constitutional Amendment has made free education for all children in 6-14 age group a Fundamental Right . The State or any of its agencies is under obligation to ensure that this Fundamental Right is not superseded by any of its decisions or steps in favour of a cause that is not covered by any of the Fundamental Rights. This has also been the case since Supreme Court's Unnikrishnan Judgement (1993). JDA's decision, therefore, violates the Constitution as a private university, designed to provide commercialised education to students over 18 years of age, is not protected by any of the Fundamental Rights. In contrast, the Bandhyali school is providing free education to children (esp. the girls) in 6-14 age group where the state govt. has failed to fulfill its obligations under Article 21A. The State is duty bound to give priority to Bandhyali school over a private university. Status: The court has given 19th December as the next date for hearing, because the state of Rajasthan did not respond so far.
The Rajasthan Govt. is currently celebrating its "Bharose ke do varsh" (Two years of Trust). The Chief Minister herself on a Sampark Yatra(Contact Program). One certainly hopes she hears about this soon.
What can we do?
Sign the online petition: http://new.petitiononline.com/Digantar/petition.html
If you are in Rajasthan: Ask your local newspaper to publish news/updates on this issue.
Call/Fax/Email Govt official to wake them up:
Pass on Asha Seattle's letter to newspaper editors:
Note: We have already tried a few esteemed newspapers including Dainik Bhaskar and Rajasthan Patrika. We are yet to hear from them.
A notice board stands in front of the school. The board states that the land belongs to the Govt. Underneath it preaches, "It's the responsiblity of the government to run good schools for deprived section of society". And futher, it hopes "The school will be run without obstacles".
